• Loxton Museum of Agriculture and Technology

Located in the banks of the River Murray, the museum aims to conserve examples of equipment, machinery and technology and illustrate innovation in agriculture, horticulture and community life.

Loxton Museum of Agriculture and Technology (LMAT) is located on land donated by the pioneering Kaesler farming family at the historic Kaesler’s Landing on the northern outskirts of the Loxton Irrigation Settlement. The Kaesler family’s farm lies adjacent to the River Murray and was an important trading location in the paddlesteamer days.

The museum was established in August 2011 with the aim of collecting machinery and equipment from farm and fruit blocks in the northern Mallee and Riverland, to be eventually displayed for use in education, recreation and other interests on behalf of the people of Loxton and surrounding districts.

The museum received state funding through an Anzac centenary grant in 2017-18 to rebuild a former World War II RAAF aircraft hangar to be used as their display facility for the region’s progression in rural technology.

LMAT holds a bi-annual Open Day in August – a happy family fun day in a picturesque rural setting by the River Murray, featuring heritage working farm machinery, stationary engines, shearing equipment, farm trucks, vintage cars, a working blacksmith shop and the opportunity to cruise the river on the historic paddle steamer Industry. The event aims to create an awareness of the museum, help people capture the exciting vision of LMAT, and encourage support both physically and financially, to assist in the establishment of the growing facility.

The museum is a member of the National Historical Machinery Association.
