• Marion Historical Society

Marion Historical Society members learn about, preserve, celebrate and help others learn about the history of the City of Marion.

The Marion Historical Society was founded in 1985 to prepare for the Centenary of the City of Marion Council and the 150th Anniversary of the European settlement of South Australia.

Our aims are:

  • To arouse interest in the history of Marion and South Australia<
  • To promote the preservation of material relating to that history and encourage community access to that material
  • To assist in the preservation of buildings and sites significant to Marion.

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Cooinda Neighbourhood Centre at the rear of the Marion Council Chambers on Sturt Road, Sturt, to listen to guest speakers. We also lead guided walks explaining aspects of Marion’s history, and volunteer with the City of Marion to work on the local heritage collections at the Marion Heritage Research Centre and the Park Holme Library. Much of the material in these collections was collected by members of the Marion Historical Society.

Meetings held 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm
