Have you ever wondered what goes into assessing a grant application? Would you like to know?
The History Trust of South Australia is continuously working to build evidence of our state’s rich and fascinating past and to make this history accessible to all. To support this, we offer two annual grant programs that progressively add to South Australia’s history and bring it to life. Each grant round is assessed by three external assessors and in 2025, for the first time, the History Trust of South Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest for its assessors. Appointed peer assessors will go into a pool of assessors to be called upon to assess grant applications.
Assessors will have knowledge of or experience in history, museums, collections or community history organisations.
The two that will be assessed are:
- The South Australian History Fund – provides support for projects, research or publications that contribute to the knowledge, understanding and sharing of South Australia’s rich history.
- The Museums and Collections development fund – restricted to Museums and Collections (MaC) members and supports the development, preservation and sharing of community-held historical collections.
The number of applications varies between funds and rounds, however is usually between 50 and 100 applications per round. Assessments will be recorded using via the SmartyGrants Grants management system over a 3-week period. At the end of the independent assessment assessors will come together for three-hour assessment meeting to finalise recommendations.
This is a fabulous opportunity to get an overview about what is happening across the South Australian History Network, and we encourage applications from people at all levels of their career.
