Run by the South Australian Police Historical Society Inc. the museum galleries house displays of police artefacts, equipment, uniforms, badges and vehicles. The Society aims are focused on recording, preserving, displaying and educating the community on the proud history of South Australia Police since its formation in 1838.
*NOTE: With the demolition of Thebarton Police Barracks, the South Australian Police Historical Society museum is presently closed, pending the Society’s relocation to new premises within the Adelaide Central Business District.
It is expected the museum will re-open in 2026 along with the supporting archive and administration functions. Until then visits and tours of the museum are not possible. With the Society records, administration and artefacts in storage only limited research is possible.
Information on the existing website remains largely correct, except that we are not located at Thebarton Barracks and the 5 galleries have been dismantled.
An announcement will be made when the museum is about to open.
Contact with Society volunteers is possible either by:
- Calling the landline number 08 8 2074099 and leaving a message
- Via email at historical@police.sa.gov.au.
We look forward to welcoming visitors to a new modern museum in the not-too-distant future.
