• Port Milang Historic Railway Museum

Located on the site of the closed Milang railway station, on the banks of Lake Alexandrina, the original station buildings have been restored.  The tracks are now home to South Australian wagons and coaches which contain photographic and actual exhibits, describing the history of Milang and its railway.

In the South Australian Railways (SAR) collection we have a historic locomotive plus a number of coaches and wagons standing on the tracks alongside the original station buildings. These contain an exhibition of photos and memorabilia of the Port of Milang and its railway. Interactive displays include a talking station master, a railway lamps puzzle and many more. “Kids” from 5 to 105 can “drive” a real diesel locomotive.

A second collection tells the story of the various light railways which operated in South Australian mines, jetties, salt pans, munitions stores, etc. Five restored locomotives and a working model railway are included in the display. Free train rides on our 1940 munitions railway are available on Sundays

The museum also operates a cafe serving lunches, Devonshire Teas and refreshments on Sundays. There is also a community craft shop adjacent to the museum.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12pm to 4pm or by appointment. Entry to everything is free but donations are welcome.
