Part of the Mitcham Cultural Village, the Mitcham Heritage Research Centre aims to promote and preserve the heritage of the Mitcham area and operates a Local History Service through the City of Mitcham.

The Local History Service seeks to provide access to information and images about the district. There is information on people and places including historical details on the thirty suburbs that make up the City of Mitcham.

The Local History Service maintains an extensive collection of documents, photographs and research relating to the history, development, environment and culture of the district. The publicly available collection includes over 4,000 photographs, cemetery records, local newspapers, community records and a reference library. Knowledgeable staff and volunteers are available to assist you with personal and curriculum based research.

The Local History Collection has been created to collect, collate, catalogue and store information concerning the City of Mitcham to archival standards and is predominently paper based.

The centre offers assistance with research, photographs, advice on local histories; opportunities for volunteers to develop research skills;information on memorials and cemetery lot profiles; local and family history information in relation to the Mitcham council area; and sometimes delivers workshops
