The society grew out of an action group called SOBS (Save our Bootmaker’s Shop) established in 2009 to restore a condemned ruined cottage, once used by bootmaker Johnny Staples, in Sherry Park on the Strathalbyn Road in Mylor. The building was restored using voluntary labour and an interpretive sign created with funding from the History Trust.
