First established by Peter Squires in 1982, Old Tailem Town is said to be Australia’s largest pioneer village. This privately owned museum now features over 110 buildings which have either been transported here in one piece or taken apart and put together again. They are all furnished within their periods, with original artefacts, and attempt to tell the story of life for settlers in South Australia from around 1900 to 1960.
The oldest building is a ticket office from the first exhibition grounds in Adelaide, dating from 1870, along with an 1881 school which can be used for educational activities during school excursions.
Old Tailem Town is located on the South Eastern Freeway 5km north of Tailem Bend.
