Preserving the history of Port Pirie and its families for future generations.

Established in 2000, the Port Pirie District Family History Group is a non-profit organisation with the aim to preserve the history of both the city of Port Pirie and its families for future generations.

Members are happy to help others who have similar interests in history; and their volunteers are available in the History Section at the Port Pirie Regional Library to help visitors on Fridays between 1pm and 3pm, and Sundays by appointment.

Birth, Death and Marriage records are available plus family histories and reference books. Local and interstate enquiries can be researched. Enquiries are welcomed by mail, addressed to the Research Officer. Postal requests for research MUST be accompanied by a business sized pre-stamped envelope. The set charge for research is $20.00 per hour.

The group is currently doing a complete transcription of the Port Pirie Cemetery which includes photographing, transcribing and matching up with council records. They hope to be able in the near future to offer the finished product for purchase for those who may be interested.  So far English, Irish, French, Chinese and Japanese persons have been found amongst these records.

The group meet at the Port Football & Community Sporting Club, Wandearah Road, Port Pirie at 6pm on the first Tuesday of each month for a short meeting, followed by a friendly chat and a cuppa.  Guest speakers are often invited to address the meeting on topics relating to the Group’s research.  Everyone is most welcome to come along.
