Run by the South Australian Police Historical Society Inc. the museum galleries house displays of police artefacts, equipment, uniforms, badges and vehicles. The Society aims are focused on recording, preserving, displaying and educating the community on the proud history of South Australia Police since its formation in 1838.
Based within the heritage listed Thebarton Police Barracks on Gaol Road Adelaide the Society presents the history of South Australia Police in five “themed” galleries, including a display of historical vehicles. Tours of the museum can be arranged by appointment only.
Guided Tours
- The Society offers guided tours for groups of 15 or more people by appointment only. The Society will require at least 28 days prior notice of any intended tour and will consider smaller groups, particularly those with special needs and also for schools. Please contact the Societyby telephone (Thursday only for direct calls) or by email to discuss your proposed visit with the Tour Manager.
- Tours can be facilitated any day of the week EXCEPT Thursdays and generally start at 10:00am or 1:00pm. A basic tour will take about 1.5 hours or 2 hours if morning or afternoon tea is included.
Special Consideration:- Access to Gaol Road can only be made by making a left hand turn. Vehicles must approach along Port Road from the west.
