• Glenelg Air Raid Shelter

    Discover Holdfast Bay's role on the home front during WW2 in one of the four remaining public WW2 air raid shelters in Adelaide.

The Holdfast Bay History Centre looks after the Glenelg Air Raid Shelter, one of the four remaining public Second World War air raid shelters in Adelaide.  It is located on Rugless Terrace next to the Glenelg Football Oval.

It was built in 1942 to house war-time communications systems and now contains the exhibition From the Bay to the Battlefield where you can discover Holdfast Bay’s role on the home front during the Second World War.

Note there are steep stairs down to the shelter.
